The Boss design is what sets it apart. First of all - what more stylish box can there be? Curves all the way!

More to the point, the Boss is super safe.

There is only so much space in a two horse box and the Boss makes most use of every inch: From years of experience of travelling and competing horses (even very stressy ones), we feel we have the ultimate practical design

Safety

  • Throughout the Boss you will find features designed to be practical and the design itself is intrinsically safe.
  • The bulkhead between the horses and the cab is constructed of a sturdy aluminium frame completely covered with strong aluminium planking and attached to the box with engineeringly correct and inherently strong methods
  • The ramp is again super strong, doesn't flex and yet is designed to be finger light to lift.
  • With the door through to living model, there is a breast bar. As the horses have no view through to the rear of the box, any tendency to try and jump the breast bar is minimised, but in the unlikely event the horse does do so, the breast bar is released by pulling a pin - no tools required.
  • The floor of the Boss is super strong. The cockpit of the donor vehicle is not compromised and we add to that a thick sheet of aluminium - sealed down. The floor is impenetrable! The thick tough foam on top of the floor floor above gives protection from damage to horse and box and helps the horses balance .
  • Locker tops are designed to withstand horses hooves in the unlikely event of an occupant jumping up.
  • Everywhere in the box, everything is super strong and designed to be horse proof (see "Horace" below)

Practicality

  • With a totally separate living space, all your personal belongings keep clean - dust, hay and sneeze free
  • The ramp is tall. This means first, a shallower entry for the horse, and when the ramp is up it provides a suitable barrier for the driver side horse when the ramp lid is up
  • Partition: Your partition is moveable into any position along the width of the Boss. But it is also telescopic, so useful for a horse that needs a bit more room, or when you need to tack up and to have more access to your horse.
  • Lockers: All your lockers are easily accessible - especially the large tack locker at the side of the ramp. This locker is vast and holds so much "stuff" and is just where you want it when preparing your horse - just literally a step away from him, and if its raining, the flip up locker door and ramp lid keep the worst of the rain off you!
  • Flip up ramp lid: This has many advantages.
  • First it is definitely an aid to loading, The horse feels more committed when sensing the lid above him and the step into the box itself is not such a barrier
  • With barn type doors, it is impossible to open the cab door without swinging the barn door
  • You can stand on the ramp in the rain and not get wet!!
  • the Ramp on the driver side. We are sometimes asked why we have the ramp on the drivers side - and the simple answer is - why would you not?
  • First when loading a horse you are loading leading him from the side that is natural because it is the one we always use.
  • So all horses are more reassured when loading because it is one less significant thing that is different.
  • Further more from a safety point of view, if something goes wrong when loading or dealing with your horse while on the lorry, all your reactions are programmed to what to do when leading a horse from the left so you have an intrinsically safer reaction
  • If you are carrying one horse, put it on the passenger side, you will not unbalance the box, the ramp is one of the heaviest parts of the box and is at the opposite side to where he is. The box is so well balanced you will feel at no time any imbalance when driving when carrying one or two horses
  • We are sometimes told, what do you do if you have a problem on the road, you cant get your horse off without unloading it into oncoming traffic. Surely if you broke down you would pull into the side - and in all probability couldn't get the ramp down at all if it was on the passenger side.
  • And if on a motorway or major road one would be foolish to unload without the police who would stop the traffic

(still waiting for one good reason to have the ramp on the left!!)

Design

HORACE

Horace has been in our family since he was three. He has been marvellous, carrying four members of our family doing whatever they wanted over many years

He has always been a stressy traveller and has a tendency to kick, stamp, chew lean and perspire etc. He is enormous, one of those horses you call 16.3HH but is really 17.2HH! He is also very strong and powerful

So when we started to design the Boss, Horace was our test equine passenger. If the box could withstand Horace's attentions - it was strong enough. As we went through the design it was always - is it Horace proof?

So Paul, who isn't really horsey, hated Horace at that stage, but now appreciates what a good turn he did us.

Thank you Horace!
